Mr. R. R. Keimig, Chief Projects Branch #2, Division of Resident and Project Inspection NRC INSPECTION 50-272/81-27 AND 50-311/81-27 UNIT NOS. 1 AND 2 SALEM GENERATING STATION Gentlemen:
we have reviewed the report of your inspection conducted by Mr.
L. Norrholm during the period October 20 through November 23, 1981.
Our response to the violation described in Appendix A is as follows:
Item of Violation Facility Operating License DPR-75, Section 2.C. (24) (c) (.ii), states, "PSE&G shall perform a 48-hour endurance test on all auxiliary feed-water system pumps prior to operation at 100 percent power.
~SE&G shall provide a report on the results of these tests to NRC within 60 days of completion of the tests."
Contrary to the above, on November 2, 1981, the licensee had not provided a written report of the testing which concluded on August 14, 1981.
This is a Severity Level VI Violation (Supplement l)_ applicable to Docket No. 50-311.
Reply to the Item of Violation The 48-hour endurance tests on all Unit 2 auxiliary feedwater pumps were completed on August 16, 1981.

Qnits Nos. 1 and 2 1/5/82 attention to Mr. Steven A. Varga, Chief, Operating Reactors Branch #1, Division of Licensing, by letter dated November 3, 1981.
New and augmented procedures for the tracking of all items required to be submitted to the Nuclear Regulatory Commission are being developed with the development of the new PSE&G nuclear organization which will be located at Artificial Island.
These procedures will ensure that all required transmittals will be made in a timely and correct manner.
The transmittal of the test results on November 3, 1981 completed the actions necessary to correct the item of violation, and brings PSE&G into full compliance with Facility Operating License DPR-75.
Therefore no further action on this item is necessary.
