AUXILIARY FEEDWATER SYSTEM RELIABILITY UNIT NOS. 1 AND 2 SALEM NUCLEAR GENERATING STATION DOCKET NOS. 50-272 AND 50-311 Your letter of September 17, 1981 requested PSE&G to provide a commitment and schedule for resolving two concerns related to Auxiliary Feedwater System Reliability for Unit 1.
The first concern, availability of the spool piece for lin-ing up the Service Water System as a backup auxiliary feed-water supply in the event of a tornado, has alieady been re-solved for Unit 1 by modifying plant procedures to require spool piece installation in the event of a tornado warning.
A surveillance requirement will be placed in the Unit 1 Technical Specification to require that the spool piece be verified as onsite once per twelve months.
For the second concern, PSE&G commits to install a control grade automatic low-suction pressure trip for each auxiliary feedwater pump, during the 1982 refueling outage of Unit 1.
