20555 Attention:
Mr. Frank J. Miraglia, Chief Licensing Branch 3 Division of Licensing Gentlemen:
OVERHEAD ANNUNCIATOR ALARM VOLUME NO. 2 UNIT SALEM NUCLEAR GENERATING STATION DOCKET NO. 50-311 Section IV, Item I (Control Room Design Review) of the Salem Nuclear Generating Station, Unit 2 SER, Supplement No. 4, identified the audible alarm for the overhead and console annunciators as being too low in volume and required that the volume be increased to 20 dB (A).
This modification has been completed.
As a result of testing this modification, we have determined that the required volume of each annunciator speaker (20 dB above background noise with the emergency ventilation fan in service) is unacceptably loud.
This has been concurred in by the Senior Resident Inspector.
PSE&G therefore proposes to reduce the volume of each speaker to a level which is ac-ceptable (10 dB above background noise with the emergency ventilation fan in service).
This volume is adequate to alert control room personnel to all alarm conditions in the control room.
If you have any questions in this regard, do not hesitate to contact us.
