SUMMARY

OF MANAGEMENT MEETING TO DISCUSS STATUS OF LICENSING REVIEW On August 15, 1980, members of the NRG staff met with the Licensee to.discuss.

ments, steam generator tube plugging, control room design, radiation protection organization, operator licen$ing exams, purge valve alarm, turbine inspection and equipment qua 1 if i cation.. *

. D. Ei senhut al so discussed those items, which had the potenti 9(~-6f signi'ficantly delaying the issuance of the Salem 2 license. These items were emergency preparedness and shift staffing.

O. Eisenhut and *s.-Hanauer pointed out that the *current shift staffing program proposed by the Licensee* had-several deficiencies. For-example, the proposed program did not allow for attrition.

Also, the Licensee had proposed starting a training program for J2 people in September 1980.

NRC suggested that more than 12 people should be included in that program.

The Licensee described their 1 icensed operator program.

Biisically, new people

• are hired as Utility Operators and are eventually promoted to the position of Nuclear Control Operators.

At the maximum promotion speed, the program takes
