ENVIRONMENTAL QUALIFICATION OF CLASS IE INSTRUMENTATION AND ELECTRICAL EQUIPMENT NO. 1 UNIT SALEM GENERATING STATION An environmental qualification review report was submitted to the Director of Nuclear Reactor Regulation, attention Mr. A. Schwencer, Acting Chief, on August 25, 1980.
This review was undertaken in accordance with the requirements of NRC IE Bulletin 79-0lB, "Environmental Qualification of Class lE Equipment" and NUREG 0588, "Interim Staff Position on Environmental Qualification of Safety-Related Electrical Equipment".
During the course of this review, problem areas were identified with respect to certain pieces of equipment where no documentation was available, documentation was insufficient based on new requirements imposed or the review process was not completed but the data indicates acceptable operation.
In accordance with the requirements of NRC IE Bulletin 79-0lB, the attached Table B from the report identifies potential deficiencies regarding equipment environmental qualification for Salem Unit 1.
Preparations are being made to identify changes to operating pro-cedures and/or notification to the operators with respect to the items listed in Table B.
In addition, a tabulation of required design changes is also being prepared.
Supplemental information with respect to this reportable item will be contained in a follow-up licensee event report.
