QUALITY ASSURANCE REQUIREMENTS REGARDING DIESEL FUEL OIL SALEM GENERATING STATION In response to your letter dated Ja,nua,ry 7, 1980, we believe that the following measures are adequate to comply with our license and to assure the quality of our diesel generator fuel oil:
The diesel fuel oil is supplied to the diesel generators from day tanks, which are fed in turn from 20,000 gallon storage tanks.
The following requirements are specified in Salem Technical Specification 4.8.1.1.3:
Verify adequate level of fuel in the 20,000 gallon storage tank~
Verify operability of the pump transferring fuel oil from the storage tanks to the day tank,s Sample fuel from the 20,QOO gallon storage tanks 31 days 31 days Quarterly These r*equirerrients are fulfilled by wri tteri and approved; pro-edures.
The procedures require that if the analysis o;f the oil is not satisfactory,.the Opeiat:Lons Department is alerted.
A station Q.A. i;;urveillance program provides second level veri-fication that station procedures are being followed.
