Light Water Reactors Branch 3 Division of Project Management PROPOSED LICENSE CONDITION SECONDARY WATER CHEMISTRY CONTROL NO. 2 UNIT SALEM NUCLEAR GENERATING STATION DOCKET NO. 50-311 We are in receipt of your letter of July 31, 1979, requesting submittal of our proposed Secondary Water Chemistry Program which will be referenced in a condition to the Salem 2 operating license and will replace any proposed technical specifications on secondary water chemistry.
In response to your request, the following information is provided.
During the initial operation of Salem 2, for a period of approximately six months, a program will be conducted to es-tablish the critical parameters, approximate limits and fre-quency of sampling for secondary water chemistry to limit the corrosion of the steam generator tubes.
This investigation will provide the basi~ for development of procedures for recording, interpretation, and management of the data, definition of corrective action, including the ad-ministrative controls required for initiation of corrective action for off-control point chemistry conditions.
The results of this investigation will be used to develop the Secondary Water Chemistry Monitoring Program which will be submitted to the Commission for review.
The results of the review will be used to finalize the specifications to control the secondary water chemistry to limit corrosion of the steam generator tubes.
