OF MEETING HELD ON JUNE 27, 1979 REGARDING LESSONS LEARNED FROM THE*THREE MILE ISLAND INCIDENT AND ITS IMPACT ON THE ISSUANCE OF AN OPERATING LICENSE FOR SALEM NUCLEAR GENERATING STATION, UNIT 2
' j A meeting* to discuss the lessons learned from the Three Mile Island Incident and its impact on the issuance of an operating license for Salem Nuclear Generating Station, Unit.2 was held in Bethesda, Maryland on June 27, 1979
-with representatives of Public Service El.ectric ~(Gas Company.
A list of attendees is in'cluded as an Enclosure to this summary.
Significant points discussed are as follows:
- 1.
PSE&G advised us that they have made an extensive effort to determine what lessons are to be *1earned from the Three Mile Island Incident.
_ 2.
We advised the applicants on how we *intend fto resolve mat*~ers regar.ding the Three Mile Island Incident as they relate to Salem Untt 2.
We indicated that a meeting with the 'commissioners was held on June 25, 1979 to give the*Commissioners a preview of What we think are the lessons to be learned from the Three Mile Island Incident as they relate to operating plants and plants like Salem Unit 2 which are in the late stages of construction and the licensing review process.
We further indicated that specific recommendations would be made by the first week of July.

We also advised the ~pplicant that~the outstanding Salem Unit 2 licensing issues must be resolved prior to the issuance of an operating license.
