NOTICE OF VIOLATION (NRC INSPECTION REPORT
NO. 50-255/97016(DRS))
Dear Mr. Palmisano:
This will acknowledge receipt of your letter dated March 4, 1998, in response to our
letter dated February 2, 1998, transmitting a Notice of Violation (NOV) associated with the
failure to post a high radiation area in the Waste Gas Surge Tank room. Your corrective
actions included the following: (1) informing operations personnel about the potential impact of
operator actions on radiological conditions, (2) immediate radiation surveys of the affected area
and the subsequent communication of this event to the health physics staff, and (3) review of
other areas in the plant which might be similarly impacted. We have reviewed these corrective
actions and have no further questions at this time. These corrective actions will be examined
during future inspections. In addition, we will continue to review the Chemical and Radiological
Services efforts to conduct broader and more proactive communications with the other
departments to effectively monitor changing radiological conditions at your facility.
