- In a letter dated August 6, 1996, Consumers Power Company requested NR~ approval for a ~evision of the PIDAL (Palisades In-core Detector Algorithm) in-core monitoring computer code. This revision involves the replacement of Siemans Power Corporation's codes (PDQ and XTG) with SIMULATE-3, an advanced three-dimensional two-group reactor analysis code.
During a meeting on September 25, 1996, Consumers Power Company offered to provide the NRC reviewer with any additional background information that might facilitate his review of the proposed revision. The reviewer noted that it would be helpful to have a chart showing the change in predicted rhodium depletion rates using the new methodology.
The following attachment contains the requested information. Provided is a comparison of PDQ and SIMULATE-3 determinations for cycle 11 rhodium reaction rates at 0.0 and 13.0 GWD/MTU. Since the five-level SIMULATE-3 reaction rates have to be collapsed to two dimensions for comparison with PDQ, the reaction rates are only provided for instrumented locations with all 5 levels operable. The fraction of remaining l
[bo_dium from one string in each quarter core location was utilized to determine the self-9610160014 961009 Fr 1

shielding correction contained witflin the listed SIMULATE-3 reaction rates at 13.0 GWD/MTU. Since all the detectors were new at the beginning of cycle 11, no self-shielding correction was necessary at 0.0 GWD/MTU.
