-Plant Safety and Licensing Director 10CFR50.61 - PRESSURIZED THERMAL SHOCK - ADDITIONAL INFORMATION Consumers Power Company letter dated November 18, 1994 committed us to submit, before March 1, 1995, (1) a site specific integrated surveillance plan and (2) a plan to further evaluate material from the Palisades retired steam generators.

In the time since that letter was issued, a substantial amount of new information has been submitted for NRC evaluation. That evaluation is ongoing at this time and until CPC receives the resultant SER, we cannot complete our determination of the type of, or need for, a site specific integrated surveillance plan. Since weld material from the retired steam generators may be involved in a surveillance plan, neither can we submit plans for use of the steam generator weld material.

In view of the above, we hereby withdraw our November 18, 1995 commitments to:

1.

Before March 1, 1995, submit a site-specific integrated surveillance plan for staff approval; and

2.

Before March 1, 1995, submit a plan to further evaluate the weld material from the retired steam generators.

After the SER is issued, we will assess all aspects of the future operation of the reactor vessel.

Any necessary surveillance programs or future use of.

retired steam generator material would then be determined as part of that assessment and communicated to the NRC as necessary.
