PALISADES PLANT - ADDITIONAL SITE EVALUATION FOR THE INDEPENDENT SPENT FUEL STORAGE INSTALLATION (ISFSI) (TAC NO. M88875)

The staff has reviewed Mr. David Rogers' letter dated March 22, 1994, describing the analyses Palisades is performing to address recent questions regarding the ISFSI storage site.

We understand that your efforts are focused in five areas: soil boring data, liquefaction potential, structural integrity of the pad, cask stability, and soil erosion.

We expect that these analyses will include an assessment of the dynamic and static slope stability with the pad loaded and will assure that the cask response spectra envelopes the site response spectra.

It is our intent to conduct a timely review of your materials and issue a safety evaluation.

Furthermore, we plan to visit your site on April 5, 1994, to inspect the ISFSI in light of the recent concerns. Upon completion of the staff's review of your analysis, we plan to conduct a public meeting at a location near the plant to discuss the results.
