27780 Blue Star Memorial Highway, Covert, Ml 49043 November 15, 1993 Nuclear Regulatory Commission Document Control Desk Washington, DC 20555 GB Slade General Manager DOCKET 50-255 - LICENSE DPR PALISADES PLANT - DELAY OF REPLY TO NRC REQUEST FOR INFORMATION REGARDING THE PRESSURIZER SAFE END NOZZLE CRACKS Our letter of October 20, 1993 provided Consumers Power Company's initial reply to an October 8, 1993 NRC request for additional information regarding the recent pressurizer safe-end crack.
In that letter we committed to provide a response to your information requests 10 (margin-to-failure analysis for the cracked PORV nozzle safe-end) and 11 (leak before break analysis for pressurizer safe-ends) by November 15, 1993.
We have been working with our nuclear steam supply system vendor, ABB/Combustion Engineering, to prepare these analyses and have received preliminary results which appear favorable.
However, the analyses are still preliminary and have not received the required reviews by ABB/Combustion Engineering and Consumers Power Company personnel.
Therefore it will not be poss i b 1 e to submit the analyses by November 15, 1993 as previously committed.
The responses to the NRC requests require thorough and comprehensive analyses.
We are confident that we can provide these final analyses on or about November 30, 1993.
We regret any inconvenience that this delay may cause.
