  • General Manager DOCKET 50-255 - LICENSE DPR PALISADES PLANT - NRC BULLETIN 93-02, DEBRIS PLUGGING OF EMERGENCY CORE COOLING SUCTION STRAINERS The following information is provided in accordance with reporting requirements-.

1 and 2 of NRC Bulletin No. 93-02.

On May 11, 1993 Palisades received NRC Bulletin No. 93-02.

The plant was in a maintenance shutdown at the time.

The following actions were completed prior to the subsequent restart:

Inspection of the containment had been made prior to receipt of the bulletin in accordance with normal operating procedures, to a~sure adequate cleanliness for closing containment prior to operation.

The Shift Supervisor who had performed the inspection reviewed the subject bulletin

  • and verified that temporary fibrous materials had been removed.

The containment genera 1 arrangement drawings were reviewed to identify any-_

equipment which used temporary or non-LOCA designed fibrous filter or insulation material during operation.

No such usage was identified.

  • Cleanliness and radiatjon practices, which might have called for installation of such materials during shutdown periods, were reviewed to
  • .as~ure such material was removed prior to startup.

Completion of the requested actions was r~ported to the NRR Project Manager for Palisades by telephone.

In addition to the actions described above, the containment cleanliness inspection procedure will be reviewed, and enhanced if necessary, to assure that specific guidance to consider fibrous and other materials with potential for plugging the emergency core cooling suction strainers is provided.

Any revision of the procedure necessary to accomplish.this will be completed prior to restart from our next refueling outage.

The restart is currently scheduled in July of this yeir~
