Dear Chairman Svinicki and Commissioners Jeff Baran and Stephen G. Burns,

Please consider the attached request from twenty-one members of the New Mexico House of Representatives. Similar letters will be sent to you from nine New Mexico State Senators.

Please include this letter in the docket and send a response directly to Rep. Stephanie Garcia Richard.

Please cc me as well.

The letter regards the Holtec International application for Consolidated Interim Storage of high-level radioactive waste, proposed for a site between Carlsbad and Hobbs, New Mexico.

It requests that the NRC leave the scoping comment period open long enough to allow the Legislature and state agencies an opportunity to review critical issues related to the application in the appropriate interim committees and make policy recommendations that can be included as scoping comments. It asks that the NRC not issue a Consolidated Interim Storage license until the Legislature and New Mexico state agencies have had this opportunity. The 2019 session begins January 15th and ends on March 16th.

Your consideration is greatly appreciated. Please keep me and the New Mexico Legislators who signed onto this letter advised of actions regarding the application.
