The period covered by this annual report isJanuaryl to December 31, 1988.

The Palisades Plant operated for 4855.9 hours1.041667e-4 days <br />0.0025 hours <br />1.488095e-5 weeks <br />3.4245e-6 months <br /> in 1988 producing a net total of 3,434,336 MWH. This represents 53.6% of the net demonstrated capacity for 1988.

  • The operation .of the ~alisades Plant did not result .in any adverse impact on the environment near the .Plant.

Throughout 1988, several revisions to proced~res .or modifications to the facility were evaiuated using the Environmental* Evaluation. form for.

  • 3.1 Discharge allowances for operation of a Reverse Osmosis (RO) unit.

On May 6, 1988 the MDNR. provided verbal approval for test operat"ion

  • of Reverse _Osmosis makeup water treatment unit. Operation of the. RO

~as subject to ~he constraints det~iled in c~rrespondence to the MDNR *

. Accordingly, no. formal revision. of the Pl_ ant's NPDES Waste Water Permit was required.

5.2 Hetbtcide Application

  • 6. 0 . *Non-Routine Reports*

There were three Non.;.Routine Reports gE!nerated in 1988 related to the*

operation of the Palisades Plant. These were:

6.1 On January 30-31, 1988 the Plant experienced an excursion of the thermal discharge limit of 1300 HBTu/Hr. Required daily observation of the discharge showed no adverse effect on the aquatic biota.

6.2 On May 16, 1988 .the Plant exceeded the daily maxililum limit of 20 mg/Q oil arid grease. Daily visual observations of the mixing basin and Lake Michigan showed no oil present.

6.3 On *June 16, 1988.-the Plant exceeded the daily maximum limit of 0.2 mg/Q Total Residual Chlorine during chlorination of the circu-lating water system. Visual observations of the mixing basin discharge.and Lake Michigan showed no adverse effects upon aquat~c biota. * . .
