INDEPENDENT SPENT FUEL STORAGE FACILITY (ISFSI) - NOTICE OF INTENT Consumers Power Company (CPC) staff and NRC staff met at the NRC offices in White Flint on April 5, 1989 to discuss CPC's intent to use Pacific Sierra Nuclear (PSN) Ventilated Storage Casks (VSC) at an Independent Spent Fuel Storage installation (ISFSI) which will be located at the Palisades Plant.
This letter dockets the information that CPC intends to install an ISFSI at the Palisades Plant and intends to use the PSN Ventilated Storage Cask (VSC) to store spent fuel. A Topical Report on the VSC has been submitted by PSN (Docket M-53) and will, by reference, be an integral part of our 10CFR72 ISFSI license application.
As discussed at the April 5, 1989 meeting, CPC intends to apply for a 10CFR72 ISFSI license in June of 1989 and requests that the license be issued before June 1990. This schedule will permit the timely fabrication of the casks and support equipment, construction of the ISFSI, and storage of spent fuel assemblies to ensure Full Core Discharge (FCD) capability at the beginning of Cycle 10 which is scheduled for the first quarter of 1992.
