MASONRY WALLS - IE BULLETIN 80 DELAY -
By letter dated April 15, 1988, the NRC requested additional information on Masonry wall design at Palisades.
To complete the work Consumers Power Company must:
o Obtain for review the calculational package on the masonry walls from the AE.
o Have the Palisades wall characteristics reviewed by those familiar with the arching issue resolution to determine if the arching action theory used for qualification is supported by test.
o Review the completed facility change package so as to ensure that wall repair and removal was completed as previously indicated.
Work has begun in these three areas.
Howeve.r, most of the remaining work hinges on obtaining the calculational package which is expected to be delivered in September.
With other additional refueling outage (scheduled to begin in early September) support work it becomes necessary we request a delay, in responding to the April 15, 1988 request, until March 31, 1989.
We have discussed this submittal delay with the NRC Palisades Project Manager.
