SCHEDULE FOR IMPLEMENTATION OF TM! ACTION ITEM II.K.3.5, AUTOMATIC TRIP OF REACTOR COOLANT PUMPS - RESPONSE TO GENERIC LETTER NO. 86-06 The subject Generic Letter requested a completion schedule for information requested in section IV be developed with our NRC Project Manager.

At the request of the Project Manager,.we confirm our intention to submit the requested information by November 6, 1986.

Consumers Power letters of June 14, 1985 and July 2, 1985 responded to NRC letter of April 26, 1985 requesting additional information on NUREG-0737 item II.K.3.5.

Our response to question 1 of the NRC letter (contained in both responses) stated that component cooling water (CCW) to the primary coolant pumps isolated on a containment isolation signal, and that the isolation actuation had been modified to include low CCW discharge pressure and a containment isolation signal.

These statements were incorrect.

The original design for CCW isolation was on a safety injection signal (SIS) and was modified to require SIS and a concurrent low CCW 4ischarge pressure signal.

Presently the isolation signal is again being modified.

The new actuation will be on Containment High Pressure (CHP).

Included will be a manual key-lock bypass of the isolation signal in order to restore CCW to the primary coolant pumps.

This modification is expected to be completed before the end of the present outage.
