ATWS CONCEPTUAL PROJECT
SUMMARY
SCHEDULE In accordance with Consumers Power Company letters of October 22, 1985 and April 23, 1986, a conceptual project summary schedule for the proposed ATWS modifications is enclosed for your information.
The project is slated for completion during the next refueling outage which is presently projected to begin in August 1987.
Engineering activities for the modification are beginning this month.
At risk to Consumers Power Company is whether the proposed modifications in our April 23, 1986, letter are acceptable to the NRC staff.
As can be seen from the conceptual schedule, October 1, 1986, represents the start of the time frame when purchase orders are to be written and issued.
Without agreement from the NRC, Consumers Power Company does not wish to expend any money on the purchase of equipment that may not be useable.
It is therefore important that we be informed of the acceptability of the modifications as soon as possible so that implementation of the modifications can meet the schedule requirement of 10CFRS0.62.
A failure to notify Consumers Power Company by October 1, 1986, will likely result in the inability to meet our proposed schedule, as any reengineering of the design resulting from NRC staff review would cause schedule extensions.
