REACTOR VESSEL LEVEL MONITORING SYSTEM - NUREG-0737 ITEM II.F.2 The enclosed Summary Report, Inadequate Core Cooling -
Reac~or Vessel Level Monitoring System (RVLMS), provides the results of the Program Tests applicable to the Palisades Plant.
Consumers Power Company submittals of May 31 and June 1, 1984, provided descriptions of the Inadequate Core Cooling Instrumentation System in response to Generic Letter 82-28.
In addition to the test results, the enclosed report also contains a short section with a description of the RVLMS and a section on regulatory compliance to the NUREG-0737 II.F.2 requirements and Regulatory Guide 1.97 and contains the system design and performance information requested in the NRG letter of October 15, 1984.
The RVLMS at Palisades will be similar to the system at Arkansas Nuclear One (ANO) Unit 2.
The ANO system provides reactor water level indication in the upper head and plenum region as well as the core region of the reactor vessel.
The Palisades system,. however, does not extend into the core region but is supplemented with core exit thermocouples.
Consumers Power Company, along with our supplier, Technology for Energy Corporation, has requested a meeting with the NRC to discuss the system design and performance.
This meeting is presently scheduled for July 10, 1986.
Because of the similarity in this report and the Summary Report submitted by Arkansas Power and Light Company for ANO, we trust your reviewers will have adequate time for review prior to the meeting.

Reactor Vessel Level Indication System - NUREG-0737 Item II.F.2 June 11, 1986 The Reactor Vessel Level Monitoring System and the remaining portions of the Inadequate Core Cooling Instrumentation which includes upgrading of the Subcooling Margin Monitor will be installed during the 1987 refueling outage.
