SEP TOPIC III-5.A (NUREG 0820 SECTION 4.9) EFFECTS OF PIPE BREAK ON STRUCTURES, SYSTEMS, AND COMPONENTS INSIDE CONTAINMENT Consumers Power Company letter of December 15, 1983 committed to install shielding on the steam generator pressure and level instrument lines and pressurizer pressure level instrument lirtes to prevent these lines from being damaged in the event of a pipe break in the charging line or the letdown line.
This commitment was made in response to NRC letters dated December 4, 1981, and SER dated June 22, 1983 which requested that we propose corrective measures for two pipe break locations that affect multiple instrument lines.
A det~iled piping analysis using mechanistic criteria has shown that these lines in the vicinity of the affected instrument lines will not break.
Therefore, there is no need to shield these lines as previously committed and this item is considered closed.
Calculation EA-NPS-AIR/PS-14, revision 1 is attached for your review in support of this conclusion.
References used in the calculation which have not been previously submitted are attached for your use.
In a related matter under this SEP Topic, a technical specification change request concerning the operability of leakage detection systems was submitted by our letter dated May 23, 1985.
