20555 David J VandeWalle Director of Nuclear Licensing Enclosed is additional information related to the Palisades Ste.am Generator auxiliary feed Sparger.
This information is being provided to assist the Staff in their generic review of the ramifications of the feedwater sparger failures at the Palisades nuclear plant.
The following information is provided:
l) Photos of the metallography work performed on the ;failed i:;parger and liner pieces.
- 2)
Prints of the sparger and liner design, as well as a markup showing the location of the various defects discovered during the failure analysis.
- 3)
A copy of the Combustion Engineering report on the* design of the auxiliary feedwater nozzle and sparger.
It is iny understanding that you also have a copy o;f the Westinghouse design report for the new auxiliary*feedwater nozzle liner and Sparger.
This report
- describes the various engineering design analysis that has been performed to establish the integrity and adequacy of the new design.
I will also be forwarding to you the corrective acti_on documents describing the disposition of the various failures discovered during the examination and failure analysis of the old sparger and liner.
These deviation reports will be forwarded when they have been completed and should contain discussions of the apparent causes of each of the failures and the corrective actions identified to resolve the problems.
