consumers Power company General Offices: 1945 West Parnall Road, Jackson, Ml 49201 *.(517) 7!3$-0550 February 8, 1984 Dennis M Crutchfield, Chief Operating Reactor Branch No 5 Nuclear Reactor Regulation US Nuclear Regulatory Commission Washington, DC 20555 DOCKET 50-255 - LICENSE DPR PALISADES PLANT - RESPONSE TO GENERIC LETTER 83-37 NRC Generic Letter 83-37 dated November 1, 1983 requested submittal of Technical Specification changes for various NUREG-0737 items within 90 days or the establishment of a realistic schedule for submittal of these changes.

Consumers Power Company has determined that we still need to submit four (4) of the identified NUREG-0737 items. These items are as follows:

Long Term Auxiliary Feedwater System Evaulation (II.E.1.1)

(10) Instrumentation for Detection of Inadequate Core Cooling (II.F.2)

(11) Control Room Habitability Requirements (III.D.3.4)

Item number (10) Instrumentation for Detection of Inadequate Core Cooling is tied to the completion and installation of that system which is presently planned for the Palisades Plant 1985 Refueling Outage (see Consumers Power Company letter dated January 30, 1984).

The remaining Technical Specification change items are prei:;ently in draft for.m.

The drafting of these Technical Specification changes plus the review and approval are subject to the

availability of the cognizant and qualified personnel.

Due to the extension of our present refueling outage at Palisades and the availability of the qualified personnel, the necessity to lengthen the schedule required for the submittal of the Technical Specification changes has been identified.

At the present time, the submittal of the three (3) identified Technical Specifi-cation change is scheduled for May 15, 1984.
