- PALISADES PLAJ.~T - REQUEST FOR AN EXEMPTION FROM 10 CFR 50 APPENDIX J III.D.2(b)ii FOR SHORT DURATION OUTAGES Title 10 CFR 50 Appendix J III.D.2.(b)ii requires a full air lock leak rate test at the end of any period in which containment integrity is not required.
This test shall be at P, the calculated peak containment internal pressure.
Consumers Power Companyarequests an exemption from the requirement to perform a full air lock leak rate test at P
- This exemption applies only to short duration outages of less than 72 ho~rs. At the end of this period, a local leak rate test will be performed to check the door seals in accordance with 10 CFR 50 Appendix J III.D.2(b)iii.
The local leak rate test is currently performed within 72 hours8.333333e-4 days <br />0.02 hours <br />1.190476e-4 weeks <br />2.7396e-5 months <br /> of the first air lock door opening during periods when containment integrity is required.
This test assures that any degradation of the door seals that might occur while the air lock is open will be detected.
The actual function of the exemption is to have 10 CFR 50 Appendix J III.D.2(b)ii apply only after a period of 72 hours8.333333e-4 days <br />0.02 hours <br />1.190476e-4 weeks <br />2.7396e-5 months <br /> has elapsed from the onset of the outage.
Title 10 CFR 50 Appendix J III.D.2.(b)iii will apply during the initial 72 hour8.333333e-4 days <br />0.02 hours <br />1.190476e-4 weeks <br />2.7396e-5 months <br /> period.
Consumers Power Company would appreciate a granting of this exemption as soon as possible.
