CURRENT STATUS OF THE POWER OPERATED RELIEF VALVE AND SAFETY VALVE POSITION INDICATION SYSTEM (NUREG-0737, II.D.3)

NUREG-0737, II.D.3 issued October 31, 1980 required the installation of a system that would be capable of providing a positive indication of the position of power operated relief and safety valves.

Consumers Power Company responded in early 1980 by installing a Babcock and Wilcox Acoustic-Based Valve Monitoring System, as documented in our "Response to NUREG-0737," dated December 19, 1980.

To date we have not been able to be fully-qualify this system, although our efforts in this regard are continuing.

In the event that the present system cannot by qualified, Company intends to replace the Babcock and Wilcox system.

qualified system will occur on a schedule consistent with 10 CFR 50.49, Environmental Qualification Schedules.
