- PALISADES PLANT - IPSAR SECTIONS 4.9 AND 4.15, PIPE BREAK INSIDE CONTAINMENT AND REACTOR COOLANT PRESSURE BOUNDARY (RCPB) LEAKAGE DETECTION REQUIREMENTS -
CHANGE TO RESPONSE DATE The NRC Staff has reviewed Consumers Power Company analyses of high energy line breaks inside containment and has concluded that we should propose corrective measures for two breaks (one in the charging line and one in the letdown line) which were identified as possibly damaging steam generator and pressurizer instrument lines.
The Staff also concluded that we should propose Technical Specification changes concerning the operability of installed leakage detection systems.
Such conclusions were documented in a June 22, 1983 transmittal relating to Integrated Plant Safety Assessment Report (IPSAR)
Sections 4.9 and 4.15 as was a request to provide our proposed resolution to these issues within 90 days of receipt of the transmittal.
The purpose of this letter is to formally document a change to the requested response date.
The change was negotiated during a July 22, 1983 telephone conversation with the Staff.
As determined acceptable by the Staff, Consumers Power Company will submit the requested proposals by November 1, 1983.
The additional time will provide an ample opportunity to gain access to in-contain-ment areas where the aforementioned line breaks are postulated to occur.
Such an opportunity will facilitate an evaluation to determine the proper corrective action.
