consumers Power company General Offices: 1945 West Parnell Road, Jackson, Ml 49201 * (517) 788-1636 September 7, 1982 Dennis M Crutchfield, Chief Operating Reactor Branch No 5 Nuclear Reactor Regulation US Nuclear Regulatory Commission Washington, DC 20555 DOCKET 50-255 - LICENSE DPR David J VandeWalle Nuclear Licensing Administrator PALISADES PLANT - NUREG-0737, ITEM II.B.3 - POST ACCIDENT SAMPLING SYSTEM The NRC by letter dated June 30, 1982 requested Consumers Power Company to provide a schedule for when we will submit a letter which documents how we have satisfied each criteria of NUREG-0737, Item II.B.3.
Although the NR*c letter of June 30, 1982 requested a schedule within 20 days of receipt of the letter, Mr Tom Wambach of your staff.notified us that the NRC was re-evaluating their information request and that we should withhold our sub-mittal until further notification from the NRC.
Consumers Power Company was contacted on August 17, 1982 by the NRC and was instructed to provide the schedule as originally requested by the NRC letter of June 30, 1982.
Consumers Power Company will provide a letter which will describe how we have satisfied each criteria of NUREG-0737, Item II.B.3 by February 7, 1983.
Consumers Power Company stated in our letter dated July 20, 1982 that oper-ating procedures for the Post-Accident Monitoring System are currently being written and will be reviewed and approved by the Plant within 120 days following equipment turnover to the Plant.
The system was turned over and accepted by the Plant on August 11, 1982.
Therefore, the February 7, 1983 response date will allow the Plant an additional 60 days after the system is put into operation.
Sixty days should be adequate to determine if the system is functioning properly, thereby meeting the criteria for which it was designed and if the system satisfies the specific clarifications, provided in the June 30, 1982 NRC letter, which will be considered in the evaluation by the NRC reviewers.
