- PALISADES PLANT - SEP TOPIC III-3.C, INSERVICE INSPECTION OF WATER CONTROL STRUCTURES In a letter dated March 24, 1982, Consumers Power Company agreed to formalize an inspection program for the intake structure and other components needed to provide a flow path from Lake Michigan to the Service Water pumps.
A point of disagreement remained, however, as to the appropriate frequency for these inspections.
Additional discussions have now been held with the staff and a resolution to this disagreement has been obtained.
The purpose of this letter is to document Consumers Power Company agreement with that resolution.
The inspection program discussed in the March 24, 1982 letter will be implemented by Consumers Power Company as described.
In addition, however, the program will include annual functionability checks of the warm water recirulating pump (P-5) and its alternate suction valves 732-CW and 733-CW.
The pump check would consist of a test run to verify pump operability.
The valve checks would consist of manual exercising to verify freedom of valve motion.
Both of these checks will provide continuing assurance that the alternate water supply to the service water pumps would be available in the event of some unforseen flow blockage in the normal lake water intake.
