consumers Power company General Offices: 1945 West Parnell Road, Jackson, Ml 49201 * (517) 788-0550 March 10, 1982 Dennis M Crutchfield, Chief Operation Reactor Branch No 5 Nucl~ar Reactor Regulation US Nuclear Regulatory Commission Washington; DC 20555 DOCKET 50-255 - LICENSE DPR PALISADES PLANT - SEP TOPIC VI-4, CONTAINMENT ISOLATION SYSTEMS By letter dated February 15, 1982, Consumers Power Company provided supple-mental information pertaining to various aspects of SEP Topic VI-4 for the Palisades Plant.

Subsequent discussions with the staff have indicated that questions remain on three containment penetrations.

The purpose of this letter is to formalize the Consumers Power Company response to these three items.

With respect to the 6" branch line on penetration 13, it has been confirmed that the pipe cap is welded on.

All questions on this penetration are therefore believed to be resolved.

With respect to penetration 19, Consumers Power Company will remove the threaded joints* on the 3" pressurization line between the outer wall of the personnel air lock and isolation valve P5A.

Modifications will be performed so that pipe joints in this p~rtion of line will be of welded construction.

It is expected that these modifications would be made during the 1983 refueling outage.

With respect to penetration 50, it has been confirmed that the pressurizing line at the threaded joint of isolation valve P6VA is 2" nominal pipe size.

As discussed in our February 15, 1982 letter, this joint is routinely pressure tested during the local leak rate tests performed under Appendix J and Palisades Technical Specification 4.5.2.

Since the threaded joint in this line size is acceptable under the current ASME B & PV Code, we believe this item to be resolved without further action.
