CRACKING IN LOW PRESSURE TURBINE DISCS Reference (1)

Meeting December 17, 1979, with Westinghouse and Consumers Power Company Reference (2)

Letter Dated December 28, 1979, from Consumers Power Company to the NRC IE Information Notice No 79-37 stated that the Palisades Plant would make repairs to the low pressure turbine discs prior to plant startup from the present refuel-ing outage.

Consumers Power Company is not in agreement with this statement.

Westinghouse informed Consumers Power Company (1) of turbine disc cracks and recommended that a reinspection of the turbine discs be performed approximately nine months after startup.

Consumers Power Company informed the NRC (2) of the disc crack indications and that solutions to the problem will be pursued as recommended by Westinghouse.

Based on the information available at this time, Consumers Power Company concludes that the condition of the turbine does not warrant repair at this time and that the safety of the plant is not adversely affected.
