  • Area Code 517 788-0550 November 21, 1979 Directo*r, Nuclear Reactor Regula ti on Att Mr Dennis L Ziemann, Chief Operating Reactors Branch No 2 US Nuclear Regulatory Commission Washington, DC 20555 DOCKETS 50-155 AND 50-255 - LICENSES DPR-6 AND DPR BIG ROCK POINT AND PALISADES PLAN1'S - REQUIREME...'ITS RESULTING FROM REVIEW OF THE THREE MILE ISLAND ACCIDENT:

P.ESPONSE TO REQUEST FOR ADDITIONAL INFORMATION Consumers Power Company letters dated October 17, 1979 and October 30, 1979 provided our commitment for the P11lisades and Big Rock Point Plants to th~

various requirements arising from NRC review of the Three Mile Island acd:dent. Concurrently, the NRC transmitted a generic letter dated October 30, 1979 to all operating nuclear power plants because some licensees had not adequately committed to meet the NRC requirements. Consumers Power Company feels that the NRC has not chosen the proper format to comment on the commitments of specific licensees.

Consumers Power Company has reviewed the October 30, 1979 NRC lett.er which provides clarification*of the NRC requirements. Our earlier letters are generally responsive to the NRC concerns. Descript.ions and justifications for any differences from the NRC positions were provided in the October 17 and 30; 1979 letters.

In order to assist the NRC staff in their revtew and follow-up of Consumers Power Company's commitment, an updated commitment list for each plant will be provided by January 1, 1980. Thi3 update will include additional detailed descriptions and justifications for our methods in meeting the NRC recommendations as well as the proposal package for each short-t~rrn lesson learned item requiring proposal re'liew by January 1, 1980. *

2 Consumers Power Company does want to emphasize that every effort is being made to complete the lessons learned requirements on the schedule requested.

Outages to install equipment not available by January 1, 1980 will be scheduled when sufficient work can be completed to justify cycling the plant.
