US Coast Guard, St. Joseph Station:
The US Coast. Guard may b.e notified in the event that control of water traffic appe&rs necessary.
- 4.
Covert Fire Department:
In the event of fire, the Site Fire Plan will be put into effect.
(Palisades Plant Operating Procedure Section D-2.0 through D-2.5).
Agencies notified for informatfon purposes inelude the following:
- 1.
South Haven Board of Public Utilities - City Water Department:
The South Haven City Water Department will be advised in the event of a major uncontrolled release of radioactivity to Lake Michigan.
The responsibility of directing what eventual courses of action will be taken by the South Haven City Water Department lies with the Michigan State Department of Public. Health.
- 2.
Van Buren State Park and Palisades Park Superintendent:
The Site Emergency Director will notify both Van Buren State Park and Palisades Park Superintendents in the event of a major uncontrolled radioactive release. *The responsibility of directing what eventual course of action will be taken by either. and/or both Park Superintendents lies with the Michigan State*Department of Public Health.
- Protective Action PROTECTION OF PERSONNEL In all instances, effort shall be made to limit personnel exposure to the radiation limits specified in Title 10-CFR Part 20 *. Only under extreme emergency situations will the higher personnel exposure limits as specified in the National Council on Radia.tion Protection (NCRP)12-20n Revised 7 /5/79

12.6.6.3 In the event that neither the General Office Control Center Director, nor an alternate, are able to make such notification,_ the responsibility for the above notifications shall revert to the Site Emergency Director.
OFF SITE NOTIFICATIONS (LOCAL)
Local civil authorities will be notified as the situation may dictate for protection of the public, control of traffic, or possible evacuation of nearby residents.
Authorities which may notified for support are:
- 1.
Michigan State Police (South Haven Post):
The Michigan State Police will be notified in the event of a major uncontrolled radioactive release.
The State Police may be advised by the Site Emergency Director to broadcast precautionary instructions to the public.
The precautionary instructions would be broadcast over Radio Station \\UOR, South Baven, Michigan and would instrU:ct persons within the affected area to remain indoors, close windows and doors, shut off venti-lation equipment and not use uncovered food or water until further notification.
- 2.
Van Buren County Sheriff or Berrien County Sheriff:
The Van Buren or Berrien County Sheriff's Department may be notified by the State Police as the situation requires to provide assistance in traffic control and notification of resi-dents in the affected area.
In the event that evacuation of residents appears necessary, members of the Sheriff's Department will work in conjunction with the State Police, State Department of Public Health and any Consumers Power Company Emergency teams utilized* for this purpose.12-20m Revised 7/5/79
