REVISION 2 JUNE 1979 AND CODE CASE AUTHORIZATION Attached: is Revision 2 dated June 1979 of the "Palisades Plant Steam Generator Repair Report." This Revision 2 contains responses to. requests for additional information transmitted by letters dated April 17 and 19, 1979.

Additionaily, pursuant to 10 CFR 50.55a(a)(2)(ii), Consumers Power requests authorization to utilize. the following Code Cases during the Palisades Plant Steam Generator Repair Program..

  • Iron. Tubi.ng Alternative Ultrasonic Examination Techniq~e Use and Remarks This code case permits higher manganese content for SA 105, SA 508 and SA 541 materials.

This promotes better welding without loss of mechanical properties.*

  • This code case permits higher yield strength for Inconel
  • tubing with accompanying higher design stress inten-sity values.

This code case permits immer-sion techniques to.be used as an alternate to contact tech-niques for UT of forgings.

This method is considered in general to be as good as contact tecii?l~que and better for certain geometries.

  • "Palisades Plant Steam Generator Repair Report*," Revision 2, June 1979, which describes the potential repair program based on complete replacement of the existing steam generators if major repairs become necessary.
