Operating Reactors Branch No 2 US Nuclear Regulatory Commission Washington, DC 20555 DOCKETS 50-155 AND 50-255 - LICENSES DPR-6 AND DPR BIG ROCK POINT AND PALISADES PLANTS - RESPONSE TO IE BULLETIN 79-12B: ATYPICAL WELD MATERIAL IN REACTOR PRESSURE VESSEL WELDS NRC letter dated March 19, 1979 forwarded the subject Bulletin for action.

The subject Bulletin stated that reactor vessel manufacturers were expected to submit generic reports covering this issue by May 1, 1979 and that licensee responses were accordingly required by May 29, 1979.

Oux reactor vessel manufacturer, Combustion Engineering, Inc, is currently engaged in performing the records search requested by IE Bulletin 78-12, T8-12A and 78-12B. They plan to submit a generic report directly to the NRC covering all reactor vessels manufactured by C-E before June 8, 1979-We will then reference the generic report in our final response to the sub-ject Bulletin. This response, for our Palisades Plant, should be submitted before June 29, 1919.

For Big Rock Point, the reactor vessel manufacturer's information must be reviewed by the Nuclear Steam Supply System vendor, General Electric Company.

General Zlectric's review should be completed within one month of the sub-mittal of C-E's generic report. Accordingly, our final.response to the sub,j ect Eulletin for Big Rock Point should be submitted by July 31, 1979.
