General Offices: 212 West Michigan Avenue, Jackson, Michigan 49201
- Area Code 517 788-0550 April 6, 1979 Director, Nuclear Reactor Regulation*
Att Mr Dennis L Ziemann, Chief Operating Reactors Branch No 2 US Nuclear Regulatory Commission Washington, DC 20555 DOCKET 50-255 - LICENSE DPR PALISADES PLANT - METEOROLOGICAL DATA Sill'1MARY AND ANALYSIS FOR 1978 Attached is the Palisades Annual Meteorological Data Summary and Analysis for the period December 1977 through November 1978.
This submittal fulfills our commitment to provide one year of additional meteorological data with greater than 90% recovery from the modified measurement program (letter from Mr D P Hoffman to Mr A Schwencer dated May 12, 1977 concerning the Emergency Dose Assessment System).
Additionally, this submittal fulfills s1m1Lar requirements and recommendations contained in the Final Addendum to the Palisades Final Environmental Statement dated February 1978 and in the Draft Evaluation for Palisades Systematic Evaluation Program Topic II-2.C, "Atmospheric Transport and Diffusion Characteristics."
It should be observed that the 10-meter wind frequency distribution (Page A-9) for the current tower bears notable resemblance to the distribution presented in Figure 7.1 of our Appendix I submittal dated June 4, 1976.
This indicates that wind frequency distributions *obtained from the current tower have not been adversely affected by proximity to the reactor building as had been postulated by the NRC on the basis of theorized wake effects.
