UN1T 2 - DOCKET NO ~ 50-260 FACILITY LICENSE DPR-52 LICENSEE EVENT REPORT 50-260/96007 The enclosed report provides details concerning a reactor scram due to a main turbine control valve fast closure which occurred on October 29, 1996.
The control valve fast closure resulted from loss of main. generator excitation which was due to degradation of the main generator exciter collector ring.
TVA has determined the cause of this event to be personnel error in the preparation of the maintenance instruction specifying the criteria for exciter brush replacement.
This report is submi'tted in accordance with 10 CFR 50.73(a),(2)(iv) as a condition that resulted in automatic actuation of any engineered safety feature including the reactor, protection system.
