SUMMARY
NOVEMBER 6,
- 1995, MEETING WITH TVA TO REVIEW DETAILS OF THE DESIGN OF A STEEL STRUCTURE IN THE BROWNS FERRY NUCLEAR PLANT (BFN) UNIT 3 DRYWELL On November 6,
- 1995, NRC and Tennessee Valley Authority representatives met in Rockvill'e, Maryland to review details of the design of a steel structure in the Browns Ferry Nuclear Plant (BFN) Unit 3 drywell.
Meeting attendees are listed in the Enclosure.
During inspection of calculations at the BFN site, NRC Region II inspectors developed questions regarding the adequacy of a steel structure.
This issue was referred to the NRR staff for assistance.
NRR and Region II staff met prior to the public meeting to review the inspectors'oncerns.
In the public meeting, TVA described cal'culations analyzing the structure, and discussed testing of a model generally similar to the installed configuration.
TVA stated that this testing confirmed the:structure would"behave in a composite fashion,
.and thus validated their analysis.
NRC personnel reviewed the information presented.
TVA was informed that inspectors would examine-the test configuration, and inspect the as-built installation in the BFN Uni.t 3 drywell.
TVA was also requested to provide additional details-on the adequacy of,welding joining pieces of the structure.
