In the Matter of Tennessee Valley Authority Docket No. 50-296 BROWNS FERRY NUCLEAR PLANT (BFN)
UNIT 3 NRC BULLETIN NO ~ 88-03 INSPECTION RESULTS NRC Bulletin 88-03, "Inadequate Latch Engagement In HFA Type Latching Relays Manufactured By General Electric (GE)
Company," required licensees to inspect HFA latching relays for inadequate latch engagement and report the results.
By letter dated July 6,
and 3, and stated that the required inspections would be completed before the restart of each unit.
TVA also stated that the inspection results would be provided within 30 days of inspection completion.
On March 16,
- 1994, TVA completed the inspections required by Bulletin 88-03 for Unit 3.
During these inspections, TVA identified' total of 64 safety related HFA latching relays for Unit 3 that matched the Bulletin 88-03 criteria.
Of the 64 relays identifi'ed, 20 are, spares.
'These relays were identified by reviewing the Equipment Management System (EMS)
- database, reviewing plant drawings, and performing plant walkdowns.
TVA found no inadequate latch engagement on the 64 safety related HFA latching relays inspected.
Therefore, no replacement or corrective repairs of these relays were required.
This completes the actions requested and reporting requirements for BFN Unit 3 HFA relays.
