In the Matter of Tennessee Valley Authority Docket No. 50-260 BRONNS FERRY NUCLEAR PLANT -(BFN) UNIT 2 CONTROL ROD DRIVE (CRD)
HOUSING LATERAL RESTRAINT DESIGN BASES During the recent NRC audit of the engi neering design for the BFN Unit 2 CRD housing lateral restraints, TVA took the following actions:
1)
A summary list of the design criteria applicable to the different areas of restraint beam design will be submitted to the staff, thereby formally documenting the basis for this CRD lateral restraint design.
2)
General Electric design specification (D-Spec) 257HA346 was used as the source 'of the maximum CRD housing flange temperature in TVA's thermal evaluation.
NRC asked that GE/TVA compile a list of plant applicability for this D-Spec, to serve as evidence of prior NRC review and/or acceptance.
The purpose of this letter is to submit the requested information, thereby completing the actions agreed upon by TVA.
Enclosure 1 defines the criteria utilized for the design and installation of the CRD housing lateral restraints.
It is noted that these design criteria are consistent with the BFN licensing bases as defined within the Final Safety Analysis Report (FSAR) or with subsequent submittals from TVA to NRC.
Enclosure 2 documents the project applicability for General Electric design specification 257HA346.
