In the Matter of Tennessee Valley Authority Docket No. 50-260 BRONNS FERRY NUCLEAR PLANT (BFN) SCHEDULE FOR MAJOR INSPECTIONS FOR UNIT 2 RESTART TVA representatives met with members of the NRC staff on April 27,
- 1989, in the Rockvi lie office.
The purpose of the meeting was for TVA to give NRC an assessment of BFN readiness to restart.
One of the agenda items discussed was the schedule for restart inspections.
This letter documents the status of readiness for restart inspections.
As discussed with the staff, the inspections fall in the following categories:
l.
Ongoing Inspections:
There were five inspections in progress at the time of the meeting (see enclosure).
The seismic structural and the Review of GE reactor vessel calculations inspections are now comple'te.
2.
Firm Date Inspections:
There are 17 inspections that TVA is in a position to support on the current scheduled NRC inspection date.
From this list, the Appendix R safe shutdown inspection and the QA verification Inspections are now complete.
Management and organization and tra'ining verification inspections have begun on schedule.
3.
Schedule Dependent and Under Review:
There are 15 inspections that TVA is in the process of developing a firm schedule for the completion of the prerequisites.
TVA will be ready to meet with the NRC staff to discuss the schedule for these inspections during the week of May 29, 1989.
The NRC staff and TVA have agreed on the scope of most of the remaining 33 team inspections to be performed at BFN prior to restart.
BFN is completing inspection plans and action item punchlists to track audit preparations.
TVA will periodically meet with the NRC staff to review our progress relative to the restart inspection schedule.
