UNITEDSTATES NUCLEAR REGULATORY COMMISSION WASHINGTON, D. C. 20555 June
.18, 1987 Docket Nos. 50-259/260/296 MEMORANDUM FOR:
John A. Zwolinski, Assistant Director for Projects TVA Projects Division FROM:
SUBJECT:
Re:
Gerald E. Gears, Project Manager TVA Projects Division, OSP TRIP REPORT FOR JUNE 3-5, 1987 Browns Ferry Nuclear Plant, Units 1, 2, and 3
This report covers the period of June 3-5, 1987 while I was at the Regional offices and the Browns Ferry (BFN) site.
Activities undertaken included:
- Presentation to G. Zech's staff on the BFN PC-based PERT/GANTT charts and their utilization in developing the overall BFN restart activities list.
- Attendance at the J.Keppler/S.White meeting to discuss BFN restart activities.
Of special note was a statement by'C.Fox (TVA
'Corporate) indicating that TVA would most likely pursue an Independent Plant Evaluation (IPE) rather than a
PRA for Browns Ferry.
We still await a formal decision from TVA.
- TVA presented an overview of its BFN maintenance improvement program.
The proposed program appears to be an excellent start in the right direction.
It is not clear whether this program has been interfaced with Sequoyah.
- Monthly Licensing meeting between OSP and TVA held.
TVA Licensing staff indicated that they are developing a schedule which they would like to interface with OSP/TVA's activities schedule.
A meeting is planned during June 29 and 30 at Browns Ferry to review TVA and OSP scheduling efforts.

- As a result of the Monthly Licensing meeting, Al Ignatonis and myself concluded that we would meet the week of June 14 to further refine the scope of review for at least one Restart Item; ie.,
Contractor Recommendations.
Should questions exist, please contact me.
