Docket ttfo. 60-38 /388 APPLICANT:
Pennsylvania Power and Light Company FACILITY:
Susquehanna Steam Electric Station, Units 1 and 2
SUBJECT:
SUMtNRY OF MEETING HELD ON DECEMBER 12, 1979 TO DISCUSS ASME CODE STRESS ANALYSIS OF A SAMPLE PIPING SYSTEM FOR THE PENNSYLVANIA POWER AND LIGHT COMPANY - SUSQUEHANNA PLANT On December 12, 1979, a meeting was held at the Susquehanna site to discuss the informagion required for us to perform an independent confirmatory ASME Code stress "analysis of a sample piping system.
Prior to the meeting, the NRC had been supplied with isometric drawings. of each main steam safety/
relief valve discharge line.
During the morning, representatives of Pennsylvania Power and Light Company (PPSL),
NRC, Bechtel, and Pacific Northwest Labs (PNL) toured Units 1 5 2 to view various piping systems.
During the afternoon session, we stated that we would soon be able to choose a sample piping system for which PNL would perform an independent confirmatory ASME Code stress analysis.
Bechtel described some difficulties
/'t had encountered in modelling the SRV discharge piping and suggested a
simpler piping system might be more tractable.
We stated that this would be considered in making -obr choice.
We emphasized that the purpose of this analysis was not to attempt to duplicate Bechtel's ca1culations, but to independently verify that the sample piping system meets the appropriate ASME Code stress allowables.
A format was agreed to for submitting certain piping design information.
