SUBJECT:

SUMMARY

OF MEETING HELD TO DISCUSS THE ADVANCED CONTROL ROOM COMPLEX FOR THE SUSQUEHANNA PLANT A meeting was held on February 14, 1979 with representatives of Pennsylvania Power and Light Company, the General Electric Company and Bechtel.

The meeting was held at PP&L's request to discuss the Advanced Control Room (ACR) Complex and to view the Susquehanna simulator.

The purpose of the meeting was to allow PP&L to provide the staff with an overview of the ACR and the opportunity to identify any problems early in the operating license review.

The attendees list is attached.

I The applicant discussed the control room layout and described the panels and consoles in the control room.

The ACR concept in time preceded the GE Nuclenet design but incorporates the GE Power Generation Control Complex (PGCC) panels in the upper and lower relay rooms.

The ECCS systems are hard wired to the control room and are not on the computer.

The computer is used for display.

As noted before the PGCC concept is used in the upper and lower relay rooms.

However the routing of cables between the relay rooms, the cable spreading rooms and the control room is designed and installed by the Bechtel Corporation.

The fire protection for these areas is also designed and installed by Becht'el.

Three vertical cable chases containing class IE and non class IE wire connect the upper and lower cable spreading rooms and the relay rooms.

The vertical cable chases are sealed at each floor.

The staff has reviewed the PGCC design for separation and fire protection, The remainder of the ACR design had not been reviewed before.

Therefore

'he fire protection and cable separation for the remainder of the ACR design, especially the vertical cable chases, are areas of concern to the staff.

I h

1 I

APR L 0 1979 The control room is on a raised floor with the cables routed in the floor.

The cabling in the floor will have to be reviewed for fire protection and separ ation.

A tour of the simulator was then conducted and the simulator panels which are the same as those for the plant were described.

Subsequently, operator training was discussed including the use of the simulator in the training program.
