50-259 50-260 50-296 Submitted under separate cover is a copy of the five-volume United Engineers and Constructors (VEDIC) report entitled, "Interim Evaluation of Cable Tray/Supports for BFN-Unit No. 2."

VEDIC was contracted by TVA to review and evaluate all the supports in units 1, 2, and 3 essential to unit, 2 and nonessential supports in the three units whose failure could affect systems or components essential to unit 2.

The program included field walkdowns, calculations, and development of acceptance criteria to provide a reasonable level of assur'ance that the cable tray/supports would maintain structural integrity and functionality during a Design Basis Event.

(DBE).

As a result of their evaluations, 14 modifications have been proposed and are described in the report.

We request NRC review this report and provide their concurrence of the proposed program for providing interim qualification of cable tray/supports for restart of unit 2 from the present cycle 5 outage.

This program was discussed with the NRC staff in a meeting on October 23, 1985 at Browns Ferry.

Because of the size of this report, the copy has been sent directly to the NRC-BFN Project Manager.
