Dear Mr. Grier:

Zn the attached letter dated May 6, 1980, American Warming

& Ventilatingr Znc., notified the U. S.

NRC under the provisions of 10CFR Part 21 that defects existed "in the workmanship and design of some wiring connections" of dampers supplied to the SSES project.

Through subsequent cor espondence the notification was forwarded to Bechtel Power Corporation and PP&L.

Upon receipt of the information, A. R. Sabol, PP&L advised iM. R. Gallo, NRC Resident Inspector of the AWV, Inc., Part 21 report during a May 15r 1980 telephone conversation and acknowledged its relationship=to equipment which had been supplied for SSES.

Further, since AWVr Znc.,

has reported the defects under 10CFR Part 21, PP&L recognizes its additional responsibility for evaluating the sazety impact of the defects for their potential for repoztability under the specific provisions of 10CFR50. 55 (e).

Upon conclusion of its evaluationr PP&L will advise the Commission accordingly and will identify the date by which a formal report, if necessary, will be submitted as required by-10CFR50.55(e).
