d U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission Region II ATTN:

Dr. J. Nelson Grace, Regional Administrator 101 Marietta Street, NW, Suite 2900 Atlanta, Georgia 30323

Dear Dr. Grace:

Please refer to L. M. Mills's letter to J.

P. O'Reilly dated May 24,

1984, which contained our response to OIE Inspection Report 84-11 for our Browns Ferry Nuclear Plant.

The single violation concerned reactor vessel support skirt weld examinations.

In our response in item 5 "Date When Full Compliance Will Be Achieved," we indicated we would be in full compliance by July 1985 with the completion of unit 1.

However, due to unforeseen problems,,unit 1

corrective steps will be completed during the cycle 6 outage.

This was discussed between Mike Hellums of my staff and Art Johnson of your staff on July 1, 1985.

If you have any questions, please get in touch with R.

E. Alsup at FTS 858-2725.

To the best of my knowledge, I declare the statements contained herein are complete and true.

Very truly yours, cc:

Mr. James Taylor, Director Office of Inspection and Enforcement U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission Washington, D.C.
