TENNESSEE VALLEYAUTHORITY CHATTANOOGA, TENNESSEE 37401 400 Chestnut Str eet Tower II Febr uary 26, 1985 Mr. Harold R. Denton, Director Office of Nuclear Reactor Regulation U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission Washingt;on, D.C.

Dear Mr. Denton:

In the Matter of the Tennessee Valley Authority Docket Nos. 50-259 By my letter to you dated January 11,

1985, we submitted a request for extension of the deadline for compliance with 10 CFR 50.49, electrical equipment environmental qualification, for Browns Ferry Nuclear Plant.

That request was to extend the deadline to November 30, 1985 for units 1, 2, and 3.

This letter provides clarification of our request for extension for unit 1.

Unit 1 is currently scheduled to shut down to start its cycle 6 refueling outage on June 1,

1985.

Because of possible unplanned trips on unit 1 or extensions in the unit 2 outage, it may be advantageous to operate unit 1 past June 1.

To provide this needed schedular flexibility, we requested that the extension on unit 1 be granted to November 30, 1985.

As discussed in a February 6,

1985 meeting with your staff on the Browns Ferry Integrated

Schedule, the extension is not needed to November 30, 1985.

By this letter we hereby modify our extension r equest for unit 1 to allow operation to July 12, 1985 instead of November 30, 1985.

This shutdown date is consistent with that specified in TVA letter from J.

W. Hufham to you dated February 22, 1985 regarding the unit 1 Appendix J extension request.

If you have any questions, please get in touch with us through the Browns Ferry Project Manager.

Very truly yours, TENNESSE VALLEY AUTHORITY
