Docket No. 50-259 As part of the solution to intergr anular stress corrosion cracking, we are planning to replace stainless steel piping on the Browns Ferry Nuclear Plant unit 1 during the spring 1985 ma)or maintenance and refueling outage.

This is to inform you that the installation and inspection of the replacement piping is being designed in accordance with Section III of the 1983 Edition ASME Code, Summer 1983 Addenda.

This has been discussed with R. J. Clark of your staff.

On September 27,

1984, we were informed that the NRC staff has found the above referenced ASME Section IIIedition and addenda to be acceptable for use and plans to eventually endorse it in 10 CFR Part 50.55a.

Therefore, we will continue with our plans for the replacement piping work based on the above referenced code.

We request that you please confirm the acceptability of this code in writing to TVA.

If you have any questions, please get in touch with us through the Browns Ferry Pro)ect Manager.

Ver y truly yours,
