OO TENNESSEE VALLEYAUTHORITY CHATTANOOGA. TENNESSEE S7401 400 Chestnut Street Tower II April 4, 1984 Mr. Harold R. Denton, Director Office of Nuclear Reaotor Regulation U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission Washington, D.C. 20555
Dear Mr. Denton:
In the Matter of the Tennessee Valley Authority Docket Nos. 50-259 50-260 50-296 Please refer to L. M. Mills'etter to D. B. Vassallo of your staff dated January 6,
1984, regarding "Control of Heavy Loads,"
NUREG-0612 for our Browns Ferry Nuclear Plant.
In a recent conference call between Dick Clark of your staff and Mike Hellums of my staff, a certain point of the January 6 submittal was discussed which needed further clarification.
As a result of that call, we are submitting this letter with the following information.
4 TVA will perform periodic inspections and testing of NUREG-0612 related special lifting devices every five years in accordance with section 5.3.1(1) of ANSI N14.6-1978.
The five-year interval was derived from Exception 3 of Guideline 4 as an enclosure to a letter from D. B.
Vassallo to H. G. Parris dated May 26, 1983, "Control of Heavy Loads."
The schedule for implementation of these requirements was provided in our response to Guideline 4 in the January 6 submittal.
If you have any questions, please call Jim Domer at FTS 858-2725.
Very truly yours, TENNESSEE VALLEY AUTHORITY DS D. S.
